If you don’t already have an eBay account, you’ll need to create one. If you have an account, then please skip this lesson, and head over to lesson 3.
Create a new eBay account
If you’re still here, then I’ll assume you don’t have an eBay account and need to set one up. Thankfully it’s a relatively straightforward process and only takes a couple of minutes to complete.
eBay operates throughout the world, if you don’t wish to open an account in the UK or USA, you can open one specific to your country. You’ll need to bear in mind that you’ll also need to have an Amazon account, basing both in the same country is important for this business model.
On the eBay homepage, click on the ‘register’ to bring up the registration form.
You should see something like this:
You’ll need to be over 18 to sign up for an account and I’d recommend providing a valid phone number.
After pressing the Register button, you’ll be asked to confirm your phone number:
It’s best to confirm your phone number now, so press ‘Text me a PIN’ to confirm your number.
Congratulations! You’re now a registered user of eBay.
Hang on though, as there’s still more that needs to be done.
Change your eBay username
eBay will assign your account with a default username. Normally your name and a number. I’d recommend you change this to something more suitable for selling.
To change your username, login to eBay, navigate to: My eBay.
Click the Account tab and select Personal Information.
Click on the edit text by Username.
Guidance for a suitable username can be found on the eBay site here.
